    Ribes nigrum 'Cassissima® Black Marble'

Blackcurrant 'Cassissima® Black Marble' is a truly exceptional variety, renowned for producing the largest blackcurrants in the world —with individual fruits easily exceeding 1cm in diameter. Unlike typical varieties harvested by the cluster, these fruits are picked individually due to their sheer size. This results in a high flesh-to-seed ratio, offering a uniquely juicy, mild, and sweet eating experience.

As one of the earliest blackcurrants to mature, it’s perfect for gardeners seeking an early harvest. The plant is also extremely healthy, with excellent resistance to mildew and foliage that remains attractive into autumn. Ideal for fresh eating, juicing, baking, or preserving, it’s a standout addition to any fruit garden.

    • Largest fruit of any blackcurrant variety
    • Mild, sweet flavour with low seed content
    • Early ripening – one of the first to harvest
    • Mildew resistant and very healthy growth
    • Attractive foliage into autumn
    • Height 150cm - Spread 150cm

    Blackcurrant Growing Tips

    • Happier planted in a sunny, sheltered site but they can tolerate light shade.
    • Prefer moisture-retentive but well-drained soil.
    • When planting, set the bush slightly deeper than it was in the pot to encourage new shoots from the base.
    • Mulch annually with organic matter to keep the soil cool and moist.
    • Prune in winter after harvesting: remove a quarter to a third of the oldest stems at the base to encourage new growth.
    • If you would like to eat the fruits yourself, don't forget to cover the plant to stop the birds getting them!
