Wisteria brachybotrys 'Yokohama Fuji'
Wisteria brachybotrys 'Okayama' is a superb deciduous climber prized for its highly fragrant, pendulous racemes of lilac-purple flowers and attractive seasonal foliage. New leaves emerge with rich bronze tones in spring before maturing to fresh green and eventually turning golden-yellow in autumn.
In late spring, large clusters of pea-like flowers hang gracefully from the stems, filling the garden with a sweet perfume. This beautiful Japanese wisteria twines anti-clockwise and is particularly effective when trained over pergolas, arbours and sunny walls where the flowers can be enjoyed at eye level.
Following the floral display, ornamental seed pods develop in autumn, extending the season of interest. Its combination of fragrance, foliage colour and reliable performance has earned it the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit.
