Penstemon 'Garnet'
Penstemon 'Garnet', also known as Penstemon 'Andenken an Friedrich Hahn', is a bushy, semi-evergreen perennial producing upright spikes of deep wine-red tubular flowers. Each bloom is marked with white in the throat, creating a striking contrast above narrow, dark green foliage.
Flowering from midsummer into autumn, this reliable variety brings rich colour and vertical interest to mixed borders and cottage garden planting. Its nectar-rich blooms attract bees and other pollinating insects, while the long flower stems are excellent for cutting.
Hardy and easy to grow, 'Garnet' thrives in full sun or partial shade and fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Regular deadheading encourages further flowers, and a dry winter mulch provides useful protection in colder or more exposed gardens.
