Ilex x altaclerensis 'Golden King' (F)
Ilex 'Golden King' is a handsome evergreen holly with striking variegated foliage and a neat, upright habit. Despite its name, it is a Female variety, producing bright red berries in autumn and winter if a male pollinator is nearby. The broad, ovate, slightly spiny green leaves are edged in golden-yellow, bringing year-round brightness and contrast to borders, hedges, or as a standalone specimen.
Hardy and easy to grow, ‘Golden King’ thrives in sun or partial shade and well-drained soil. Its dense, bushy growth makes it an excellent choice for evergreen structure, winter colour, and wildlife value, providing both food and shelter for birds. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance.
Our Standard form is grown on a 60cm stem.
