Ribes uva-crispa Crispa® 'Darling'®
Ribes uva-crispa Crispa® 'Darling'® is a compact, upright gooseberry producing generous crops of attractive bright red fruit. The medium-sized berries have completely smooth, hairless skins, making them particularly enjoyable and convenient for eating directly from the plant.
Ripening from mid to late July, the berries have an excellent sweet, fruity flavour with a subtle berry-like aroma. They are delicious eaten fresh and can also be used for desserts, jams, preserves, sauces and baking.
Hardy, self-fertile and vigorous, 'Darling' grows well in full sun or partial shade with fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Its upright habit makes harvesting easier, while its high tolerance to gooseberry powdery mildew and leaf-fall disease makes it a dependable choice for fruit gardens and smaller spaces.
