Gasteria 'Little Worthy'
Gasteria 'Little Worthy' is a compact succulent with thick, tongue-shaped green leaves patterned with raised pale green stripes and small white bumps. The textured foliage forms attractive rosettes, gradually producing offsets to create a clump.
Well suited to bright indoor spaces and lightly shaded windowsills, this easy-care plant offers year-round foliage interest without demanding frequent watering. Mature plants can produce slender flower stems bearing pink-green, tubular flowers in spring, held above the patterned leaves.
- Other names: Little Worthy Gasteria, Ox Tongue Plant
- Useful to know: Non-toxic - safe around pets and children
- Feature: Textured, patterned foliage and pink-green spring flowers
- Eventual size: Up to approximately 20cm tall and 15cm across, gradually forming clumps
- Origins: Cultivated hybrid raised in Australia from Gasteria batesiana and Gasteria 'Old Man Silver'
Gasteria Care
Light: Provide bright, indirect light or a lightly shaded windowsill. Gentle morning sunshine is suitable once acclimatised, but protect from intense midday sun through glass.
Water: Allow the compost to dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess drain away. Avoid water collecting between the leaves and never leave the pot standing in water.
Humidity: Normal household humidity is suitable. Misting is unnecessary; provide good air circulation.
Temperature: Normal indoor temperatures are suitable. Keep above 10°C and protect from frost and cold draughts.
Feeding: Apply a dilute, low-nitrogen cactus and succulent fertiliser during spring and summer, following the manufacturer's instructions. Do not feed when growth slows in winter.
Repotting: Use free-draining cactus and succulent compost in a pot with drainage holes and sufficient depth for the roots. Repot when the plant has outgrown its container.
Winter care: Keep in a bright position and reduce watering considerably, giving just enough to prevent excessive shrivelling.
