Gasteria 'D Tiga'
Gasteria 'D Tiga' is a compact succulent with thick, pointed, dark green leaves arranged in a neat rosette. Numerous raised, light green spots cover the foliage, creating an attractive textured appearance, while finely toothed edges add further detail.
Well suited to bright indoor spaces and lightly shaded windowsills, this slow-growing plant makes a useful addition to small pots and succulent collections. Its fleshy leaves store water, keeping watering requirements modest. Provide bright, filtered light and free-draining compost to maintain healthy, compact growth.
- Other names: Tiga Gasteria, Ox Tongue Plant
- Feature: Dark green rosettes patterned with raised, pale green spots
- Eventual size: Around 10cm tall and 12cm across, depending on growing conditions
- Origins: Cultivated selection discovered in Spain; the genus originates from southern Africa
Gasteria Care
Light: Provide bright, indirect light or a lightly shaded windowsill. Gentle morning sunshine is suitable once acclimatised, but protect from intense midday sun through glass.
Water: Allow the compost to dry thoroughly between waterings, then water well and let excess drain away. Avoid water collecting between the leaves and never leave the pot standing in water.
Humidity: Normal household humidity is suitable. Misting is unnecessary; provide good air circulation.
Temperature: Normal indoor temperatures suit this plant. Keep above 10°C and protect from frost and cold draughts.
Feeding: Apply a cactus and succulent fertiliser during active growth, following the manufacturer's instructions. Do not feed when growth slows in winter.
Repotting: Use free-draining cactus and succulent compost in a pot with drainage holes. Repot when the plant has outgrown its container, choosing a pot only slightly larger.
Winter care: Keep in a bright position and water sparingly, giving just enough to prevent excessive leaf shrivelling.
