Dryopteris filix-mas 'Linearis Polydactyla'
Dryopteris filix-mas 'Linearis Polydactyla' is a distinctive male fern with finely divided, mid-green fronds and a delicate, airy appearance. Its narrow, widely spaced leaf divisions have forked, finger-like tips, creating an intricate, lacy texture across the graceful arching foliage.
Fresh fronds unfurl in spring to form an attractive upright clump, bringing structure and softness to woodland gardens and shaded borders. The foliage contrasts beautifully with broad-leaved hostas, heucheras and other shade-loving perennials. Usually deciduous, it may retain some fronds through mild winters.
Fully hardy and easy to grow, 'Linearis Polydactyla' thrives in partial or full shade with cool, moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Shelter from strong winds helps protect its delicate foliage. Water during dry spells while establishing and mulch annually with organic matter to support healthy growth and conserve moisture.
