Arachniodes aristata 'Variegata'
Arachniodes aristata 'Variegata' is a distinctive evergreen fern with glossy, dark green fronds marked by prominent lime-green to golden-yellow stripes through the centre of each segment. Its broad, triangular fronds have a leathery texture, creating a bold display that brings brightness and contrast to shaded planting.
Slow growing and clump forming, it develops an elegant upright to arching habit that adds structure to woodland borders and sheltered courtyard gardens. The patterned foliage combines beautifully with hostas, heucheras and other ferns, while container planting allows its unusual markings to be appreciated up close.
Grow in partial or full shade in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Choose a sheltered position and keep the roots moist during dry spells. In colder gardens, protect the crown with an insulating autumn mulch and move pots under cover, as the fronds may die back during cold winters.
