Dryopteris erythrosora
Dryopteris erythrosora is a colourful, clump-forming fern prized for its striking coppery-pink young fronds. Unfurling in spring, the finely divided foliage gradually matures to rich, glossy green, creating an attractive contrast between the warm tones of new growth and the established leaves.
Commonly known as the Autumn Fern, it brings colour and graceful texture to woodland gardens, shaded borders and patio containers. Its neat, arching habit combines beautifully with hostas, hellebores and other shade-loving plants. Semi-evergreen, it can retain its foliage through winter in mild, sheltered conditions.
Easy to grow and low maintenance, this fern thrives in partial or full shade with moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Choose a sheltered position, water regularly while establishing and mulch to help conserve moisture. Remove dead or damaged fronds when needed to keep the clump looking tidy.
