Ribes rubrum 'White Versailles'
Ribes rubrum 'White Versailles' is a classic whitecurrant forming a vigorous, upright deciduous shrub with gently arching branches. Pale green spring flowers are followed by heavy crops of glossy, translucent pale yellow-white berries that ripen from July into August.
The soft-skinned fruit has a delicate, pleasantly sweet flavour and can be enjoyed freshly picked from the plant. Its attractive berries are also excellent for garnishing desserts or making summer puddings, preserves, jellies, sauces and homemade wine.
Hardy, self-fertile and easy to grow, 'White Versailles' performs best in full sun or partial shade with fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. It can be grown as a traditional bush or trained as a cordon or fan, making it suitable for fruit gardens, allotments and smaller spaces. Protect the ripening crop from birds.
