Tacca chantrieri is an extraordinary, rare and exotic houseplant known as the Bat Flower, with striking blackish-purple flowers shaped like bat wings, complete with long, trailing whisker-like bracts. Its dramatic blooms and lush, broad leaves make it one of the most unusual tropical plants to grow indoors.
This striking plant thrives in warm, humid environments with consistently moist, well-drained soil, and makes an unforgettable statement in conservatories, bright bathrooms, or specialist collections. When cared for properly, it produces several spectacular flower displays during the growing season.

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but no direct sun. Best grown in a shaded or filtered-light position.
Water: Keep soil evenly moist at all times, but avoid waterlogging. Reduce watering slightly in winter.
Soil/Nutrition: Use a rich, well-draining mix with organic matter. Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with diluted fertiliser.
Humidity: Requires high humidity. Mist frequently or place near a humidifier.
Pruning & Propagation: Remove old leaves and faded flowers. Propagates by division or from seed in warm conditions.
