Solanum pseudocapsicum
Solanum pseudocapsicum is a compact, bushy plant grown for its colourful ornamental berries, which provide a bright display through autumn and winter. The glossy orange-red fruits stand out against the fresh green foliage, giving it a cheerful seasonal appearance.
Also known as Christmas Cherry or Winter Cherry, it is ideal for autumn containers and sheltered seasonal bedding, where its berries add long-lasting colour as summer displays begin to fade. It can also be enjoyed indoors on a bright windowsill or in a cool conservatory.
Best grown in a bright position in moist but well-drained compost, Solanum pseudocapsicum should be protected from frost and cold winter weather. The berries are ornamental only and should not be eaten, so plants should be kept away from children and pets.
