Skimmia japonica 'Perosa' is a compact male evergreen shrub with striking variegated foliage and a neat, rounded habit. Its leaves combine green and silvery-grey tones with pale yellow to cream margins, providing year-round colour and useful structure in shaded planting schemes.
Deep red flower buds develop from autumn and remain attractive throughout winter, contrasting beautifully with the pale foliage. In spring, they open into clusters of fragrant creamy-white flowers that attract bees and other pollinating insects. As a male variety, 'Perosa' does not produce berries.
Hardy and easy to maintain, it thrives in partial or full shade in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Ideal for containers, woodland borders and smaller gardens, it can help pollinate compatible female skimmias flowering nearby. Use ericaceous compost in pots and keep plants watered during dry spells.
