Rubus idaeus 'Schönemann'
Raspberry 'Schönemann' is a traditional late summer-fruiting raspberry valued for its generous crops of large, dark red berries. Their sweet, aromatic flavour makes them delicious eaten fresh and excellent for freezing, jams, juices and desserts. The firm fruits are also easy to handle when picking.
The main harvest falls in July and August, with later fruit sometimes continuing into autumn. This self-fertile floricane variety crops on the previous year's canes, producing strong, upright growth that is best trained against supporting wires to keep the fruit accessible.
Hardy and easy to grow, 'Schönemann' suits fruit gardens, allotments and supported rows. Choose a sunny or partially shaded position with fertile, moist but well-drained soil and water during dry spells. After harvesting, remove the old fruited canes at ground level and retain the strongest new canes for next year's crop.
