Rubus idaeus 'Summer Chef®'
Raspberry 'Summer Chef®' is a vigorous summer-fruiting raspberry producing heavy crops of large, broadly conical, medium-red berries. Its strong, upright canes develop healthy new growth and have very few prickles, making the fruit easier to harvest.
Ripening from July into early August, the berries have an intense raspberry fragrance and an outstanding balance of sweetness and refreshing acidity. This later harvest helps fill the gap between traditional summer raspberries and the earliest autumn-fruiting varieties.
Hardy and productive, 'Summer Chef®' grows best in a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Support the canes with wires or a trellis, then remove the stems that have fruited and tie in the new growth for the following year's crop.
