Rhododendron impeditum
Rhododendron impeditum is a compact dwarf evergreen shrub forming a neat, low-growing mound of small, aromatic green leaves. In late spring, it becomes covered with masses of vivid violet to purple-blue flowers.
Its naturally compact habit makes it particularly suitable for smaller gardens, rockeries, raised beds and containers. The fine evergreen foliage provides year-round structure, while the colourful flowers attract bees and other pollinators.
Native to the high-altitude regions of China and Tibet, this hardy species grows best in a sheltered position with sun or partial shade. Plant in acidic, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil and protect from cold, drying winds.
