Rhododendron impeditum
Rhododendron impeditum is a compact, dwarf evergreen rhododendron forming a neat, low-growing mound of small, aromatic green leaves. In late spring it becomes smothered in masses of vivid violet to purple-blue flowers, creating a striking splash of colour early in the season.
Native to the high-altitude regions of China and Tibet, this hardy and reliable species is particularly well suited to rock gardens, raised beds, small borders and containers. Its compact habit makes it ideal for smaller gardens, while the flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators. Best grown in acidic, moist but well-drained soil in a sheltered position.
