Redcurrant Growing Tips
- Happier planted in a sunny, sheltered site but they can tolerate light shade.
- Prefer moisture-retentive but well-drained soil.
- Plant slightly deeper than the original pot level to encourage strong new shoots.
- Prune in winter: remove older branches and lightly shorten new growth to maintain an open, productive framework.
- Mulch annually to keep the soil cool and moist and to suppress weeds.
- If you would like to eat the fruits yourself, don't forget to cover the plant to stop the birds getting them!
