Primula × pubescens - Garden Auricula
Primula × pubescens, commonly known as Garden Auricula, is a compact perennial admired for its velvety flowers and intricate colour patterns. Clusters of richly coloured blooms rise above rosettes of foliage in mid to late spring.
Available in shades including purple, burgundy, crimson, yellow, pink and bicolour combinations, these auriculas bring character to pots, alpine beds and border edges. Their contrasting flower centres are best appreciated close up, making them a traditional favourite for display in auricula theatres.
Grow in a sheltered position in partial shade, away from harsh midday sun, with fertile, well-drained soil or compost. Keep watered during active growth without allowing the roots to become waterlogged, and remove faded flower stems to maintain a tidy display.
