Primula vialii
Primula vialii is a distinctive and eye-catching perennial producing unusual poker-shaped flower spikes that bring unique colour and structure to the garden. Bright scarlet-red buds emerge at the tip of each flower spike before gradually opening from the base into vivid violet-purple flowers, creating a striking two-tone effect.
Surrounded by a neat rosette of fresh green foliage, this remarkable primrose provides an exotic appearance while remaining fully hardy and easy to grow. Its upright flowers add valuable vertical interest to borders and combine beautifully with ferns, hostas and other moisture-loving perennials.
Thriving in moist, fertile, well-drained soil, Primula vialii is particularly effective in damp borders, woodland gardens and around ponds. The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects throughout the flowering season.
