Rubus × loganobaccus 'Ly 654'
Loganberry 'Ly 654' is a thornless selection of the classic loganberry, a popular hybrid between a raspberry and blackberry. Its vigorous, trailing canes are easy to handle and can be trained against supporting wires, walls or fences.
Heavy crops of large, elongated berries ripen from July through August, developing their best flavour when allowed to turn dark red. The succulent fruit has a rich, juicy and pleasantly tangy flavour, making it excellent for eating fresh or using in pies, jams, puddings and preserves.
Self-fertile, hardy and reliable, 'Ly 654' performs best in a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. After harvesting, remove the old fruited canes at ground level and tie in the new growth that will carry the following year's crop.
