Leucothoe fontanesiana 'Little Flames'
Leucothoe fontanesiana 'Little Flames' is a compact evergreen shrub with glossy, finely toothed leaves and a naturally dense, bushy habit. Fresh growth emerges in vivid flame-red shades before gradually maturing to deep green, creating an attractive contrast between the young shoots and established foliage.
Red-flushed stems and further flushes of colourful leaves extend its seasonal appeal, with rich red tones providing interest through autumn and winter. Clusters of small, urn-shaped flowers appear in spring, adding a delicate display alongside the decorative foliage.
Hardy and low maintenance, 'Little Flames' performs best in moist but well-drained, acidic soil in partial shade or gentle sun. Its manageable size suits border fronts, patio containers and low informal hedging, where the evergreen foliage provides lasting colour and structure without overwhelming smaller planting spaces.
