Hosta 'Sum and Substance'
Hosta 'Sum and Substance' is one of the largest and most impressive Hostas available, forming a huge mound of broad, ovate leaves. Its bold foliage creates a dramatic architectural feature and brings strong structure to shaded and partially shaded planting schemes.
The glossy, heavily corrugated leaves range in colour from fresh green to chartreuse and rich gold, depending on light levels. Their thick texture offers good resistance to slug damage, while tall stems carry pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers from July to August.
Unlike many Hostas, 'Sum and Substance' tolerates a brighter position when supplied with consistent moisture. It is ideal as a specimen plant in large borders, woodland gardens and beneath trees and shrubs, where its impressive size can be fully appreciated.
