Erica carnea 'Myretoun Ruby'
Erica carnea 'Myretoun Ruby' is a low-growing evergreen winter heather prized for its rich flower colour. From January to May, small bell-shaped blooms deepen from pink-purple through magenta to crimson, standing out beautifully against dense, dark green needle-like foliage.
Its spreading habit forms an attractive carpet, making it ideal for rockeries, banks, border edges and groundcover planting. Planted in groups, it creates generous drifts of colour that combine beautifully with white-flowering heathers and spring bulbs. It also suits patio containers, while its nectar-rich flowers provide valuable food for bees during winter and spring.
Hardy and easy to maintain, 'Myretoun Ruby' grows best in full sun or light partial shade with moist but well-drained soil. It prefers acidic or neutral conditions and also tolerates alkaline soil. Trim back the faded flower spikes after flowering to keep its leafy growth neat and compact.
