Disporum megalanthum
Disporum megalanthum is a vigorous and elegant perennial with a tall, bamboo-like habit, forming graceful upright stems that bring structure and movement to shaded gardens. In spring, pure white, pendulous flowers with contrasting yellow stamens are produced along the fresh new shoots, creating a refined and unusual display.
As the season progresses, stems continue to extend, often reaching up to 180cm in ideal conditions, before being topped with striking blue-black berries in autumn. Best grown in moist, leafy soil in a sheltered, shaded position, it offers a touch of exotic, architectural interest without the invasive nature of true bamboos. While evergreen in mild conditions, foliage may be lost in colder, exposed sites but will reliably regrow in spring.
