Cryptomeria japonica 'Dacrydioides'
Cryptomeria 'Dacrydioides' is a slow-growing, shrubby conifer valued for its graceful, irregular shape and distinctive winter colour. Reaching around 2–3m in height after 10 years, it forms a broad, spreading habit with long, pendulous branches that carry clusters of slender branchlets. These are cloaked in short, grey-green, awl-shaped leaves that create a soft, feathery texture.
Throughout the year, the foliage remains an attractive grey-green, before developing bronze and reddish tints in the winter months, adding seasonal interest. Its unusual form and texture make ‘Dacrydioides’ an eye-catching specimen for borders, rock gardens, or woodland edges. Hardy and easy to grow, it thrives in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade.
