Cephalaria gigantea
Cephalaria gigantea is a tall, airy herbaceous perennial producing soft pastel-yellow pincushion flowers on long, slender stems. Blooming through summer, the flowers appear to float above the foliage, bringing height, movement and a light naturalistic quality to planting schemes.
Its elegant open habit makes Giant Scabious particularly effective towards the back of borders, in prairie-style planting and informal perennial schemes. The flowers are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, and they also make excellent cut flowers for arrangements.
Hardy, reliable and easy to grow, Cephalaria gigantea performs best in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Despite its height, the slender stems give the plant an airy appearance that allows it to combine beautifully with grasses and other tall perennials.
