Aeonium 'Schwarzkopf'
Aeonium ‘Schwarzkopf’ is a dramatic, branching succulent with large rosettes of deep purple, almost black leaves held aloft on tall, woody stems. In bright light, the foliage colour intensifies to an inky, near jet-black tone, creating a bold, architectural silhouette that commands attention.
Ideal for sunny windowsills, conservatories, or bright patios during warmer months, this statement plant adds strong contrast and structure to indoor and semi-outdoor displays. Its sculptural form makes it especially effective as a focal point in modern plant styling.
- Other names: Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop', Black Rose Aeonium
- Useful to know: Non-toxic - safe for pets and children
- Feature: Great air purifying plant
- Eventual height: Up to 90cm tall, 60cm spread
- Origins: Hybrid of species native to the Canary Islands
Aeonium Care Sheet
Light: Give plenty of bright light with some direct sunlight. Good light helps maintain compact growth and encourages the strongest pink, yellow and green colouring.
Water: Allow the compost to dry well between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Reduce watering when growth slows and never leave the plant standing in water.
Soil/Nutrition: Use a free-draining cactus and succulent compost. Feed lightly during periods of active growth with a suitable cactus and succulent feed.
Humidity: Normal household humidity is ideal. Avoid very humid conditions and ensure good airflow around the plant.
Pruning and propagation: Remove old or damaged leaves as required and trim stems to maintain shape. Stem cuttings and individual rosettes can be rooted to produce new plants.
Experience level: Beginner.
