Adiantum hispidulum 'Bronze Venus'
Adiantum hispidulum 'Bronze Venus' is an elegant maidenhair fern forming a neat clump of finely divided fronds on slender black stems. Fresh growth emerges in warm bronze-red shades before maturing to glossy dark green, creating an attractive contrast between young and established foliage.
The upright to gently arching fronds bring delicate texture to sheltered shaded borders, woodland planting and patio containers. Its compact form also makes it suitable for growing indoors in bright, indirect light, where the foliage usually remains evergreen. Outdoors, it may lose its fronds during colder weather.
Grow in partial or full shade in humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, adding leaf mould when planting. Keep the soil evenly moist and choose a sheltered position away from strong sun and drying winds. Best suited to milder gardens outdoors, 'Bronze Venus' needs winter protection in colder areas.
