Pieris japonica 'Debutante'
Pieris japonica 'Debutante' is a compact, slow-growing evergreen shrub with attractive seasonal foliage and elegant spring flowers. Fresh young leaves emerge in rich red tones before gradually maturing to glossy green, providing year-round structure and colour.
During March and April, graceful panicles of white, bell-shaped flowers appear above the foliage. Resembling lily-of-the-valley, the lightly fragrant blooms create a delicate spring display and can also attract early pollinating insects.
Ideal for smaller borders, woodland gardens and patio containers, 'Debutante' grows best in a sheltered position in partial shade. Plant in cool, moist but well-drained acidic soil, or use ericaceous compost when growing in containers.
