Pieris japonica 'Debutante' ℗
Pieris japonica 'Debutante' is a compact, slow-growing evergreen shrub that offers year-round appeal. In spring, it produces a striking flush of red young leaves that gradually fade to glossy green through the summer. During March and April, elegant panicles of white, bell-shaped flowers appear, reminiscent of lily-of-the-valley, and carry a light fragrance that attracts pollinators.
Requiring moist but well-drained acidic soil, this RHS Award of Garden Merit variety performs best in a sheltered position with partial shade. Its neat and bushy habit makes it a superb choice for smaller borders, woodland gardens, or as a container specimen, where its seasonal foliage and delicate flowers can be admired up close.
