Wisteria floribunda 'Macrobotrys'
Wisteria floribunda 'Macrobotrys' is a vigorous deciduous climber renowned for its exceptionally long, cascading racemes of fragrant pea-like flowers. The blooms are soft lilac-purple and can hang in spectacular clusters, creating an impressive display in late spring and early summer.
The flowers are followed by attractive pinnate green foliage, which provides a lush covering through summer before turning yellow in autumn. Its dramatic hanging flowers are particularly effective when trained over pergolas, arches and other sturdy structures where the racemes can be appreciated from below.
'Macrobotrys' performs best in full sun in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Regular pruning is important to control its vigorous growth and encourage flowering, and it should be given strong permanent support as it matures.
