Wisteria floribunda 'Issai'
Wisteria 'Issai' is a beautiful, vigorous deciduous climber producing spectacular cascades of fragrant lilac-purple flowers from late spring into early summer. The elegant flower racemes can reach up to 40cm long, creating a dramatic display as they hang gracefully from established plants.
'Issai' is particularly valued for its ability to flower from a relatively young age compared with many other Wisterias. Its fast-growing, twining stems are ideal for training over pergolas, arches, sturdy trelliswork and sunny walls, where the hanging flowers can be fully appreciated.
Best grown in full sun in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, Wisteria benefits from regular training and pruning to control its vigorous growth and encourage reliable flowering. Pruning twice a year, typically in summer and again in winter, helps maintain a well-shaped and floriferous plant.
