Tillandsia 'Cotton Candy' - Air Plant
Tillandsia ‘Cotton Candy’ is a beautiful hybrid air plant known for its soft, silvery-green leaves that form a dense rosette, creating a light, airy texture reminiscent of spun sugar. During flowering, the plant produces a flush of pink blush tones and elegant violet blooms that rise gracefully from the centre, giving it its charming name.
A cross between Tillandsia stricta and Tillandsia recurvifolia, this variety combines strong growth with delicate beauty. Thriving in bright rooms with good air circulation, it’s ideal for open terrariums, mounted displays, or minimalist holders - perfect for adding a touch of tropical colour and texture to modern interiors.
- Other names: Air Plant ‘Cotton Candy’
- Useful to know: Non-toxic - safe for pets and children
- Feature: Great air purifying plant
- Eventual height: 10-15cm
- Origins: Hybrid cultivar; parent species native to South America
Tillandsia Care Sheet
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or gentle filtered sunlight. Avoid prolonged direct sun, which can dehydrate the leaves.
Water: Mist thoroughly 2–3 times a week, ensuring water runs into the leaf base. Alternatively, submerge in room-temperature water for 20–30 minutes weekly, then shake off excess. Allow to dry fully before returning to display.
Soil/Nutrition: No soil needed. Feed monthly with a diluted bromeliad or air plant fertiliser added to your misting water.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity and good airflow. Excellent for bathrooms or kitchens with natural light.
Pruning and propagation: Remove any dried outer leaves to maintain a tidy rosette. Propagate from offsets (“pups”) once half the size of the parent plant.
Experience level: Beginner.
