Stipa gigantea
Stipa gigantea is a striking architectural grass valued for its tall, upright habit and elegant flower heads. Dense clumps of narrow, grey-green foliage form the base, from which rise long, airy stems topped with golden, oat-like flower panicles that shimmer and sway gracefully in the breeze. The display begins in early summer and lasts well into autumn, with seed heads retaining their form for added seasonal structure.
As the year progresses, the bright green foliage takes on tones of orange-yellow by late autumn, providing further garden interest. Perfect for adding height, movement, and lightness to borders, this grass also works beautifully in prairie-style planting schemes.
