Skimmia japonica 'Veitchii' (F)
Skimmia japonica 'Veitchii' (F) is a dense evergreen shrub with broad, glossy dark green leaves. Clusters of fragrant white flowers appear in spring, contrasting with the rich foliage.
This female variety develops glossy red berries in autumn and winter when pollinated by a suitable male skimmia growing nearby. Its bushy habit provides year-round structure in shady borders, woodland-style planting and patio containers.
Grow in partial shade or shade in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Water during dry spells, particularly when grown in containers, and mulch in spring to help retain moisture. Little pruning is needed; avoid removing flowered stems that may carry developing berries.
