Skimmia japonica 'Double Diamond' is a compact male evergreen shrub valued for its decorative winter buds and fragrant spring flowers. From autumn into winter, clusters of red and green buds are held on striking reddish stems, providing colour and interest through the colder months.
In spring, the buds open to reveal creamy-white, sweetly scented flowers that are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects. As a male variety, 'Double Diamond' does not produce berries but can act as a useful pollinator for compatible female Skimmias planted nearby.
With its neat evergreen habit, 'Double Diamond' is ideal for shaded borders, woodland-style planting and patio containers. Easy to grow and low maintenance, it performs best in partial shade in moist but well-drained soil and provides reliable year-round structure.
