Rose 'Young Lycidas'®
Rose 'Young Lycidas'® is a striking English shrub rose from David Austin, producing large, deeply cupped blooms in an extraordinary blend of deep pink, rich magenta and crimson-red. The outer petals gradually fade to soft purple with an almost silvery sheen, giving each flower exceptional depth and elegance.
Introduced in 2008, this beautiful variety flowers repeatedly from early summer into autumn, creating a spectacular display over many months. The blooms are accompanied by a wonderfully strong fragrance that combines classic Tea and Old Rose scents with intriguing hints of cedar wood, making it an excellent choice for planting close to patios, seating areas and pathways.

Getting the most from your new Rose
Where to plant
Choose an open, sunny position with free-draining soil. Avoid planting where roses have grown before or transfer fresh soil to the site. Patio roses can be planted in mixed borders or alongside other roses, or in pots and containers.
Planting
Roses love organic matter, so mix well-rotten manure, leaf mould or compost into the soil. Water thoroughly before planting. Make a hole big enough not to disturb the root ball. Remove from the pot and ensure the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Back-fill soil mixed with a good fertilizer, then firm. Water thoroughly.
Aftercare
Water well until established. Mulching will keep the soil weed-free and moist. For best results feed your roses with fertilizer in spring and again in summer. Remove faded flowers to encourage speedy repeat flowering.
Simple Pruning
Prune your rose in March or before new growth by removing any dead or very thin branches and reducing the height by 1/3 to 2/3 of the previous growth.
