Rose 'Lichfield Angel'
Rose 'Lichfield Angel' is a graceful English shrub rose from David Austin, producing pale peachy-pink buds that unfurl into beautifully cupped cream rosettes. Each elegant bloom is composed of a ring of larger waxy petals surrounding a mass of smaller inner petals, gradually opening into large, softly domed flowers of exceptional beauty.
Introduced in 2006, this charming variety flowers repeatedly from early summer into autumn, providing a long season of elegant blooms. The flowers often nod gently on the stems, enhancing their romantic appearance, and are complemented by a light musky fragrance that adds subtle perfume to the garden.
Forming a vigorous, rounded shrub with remarkably few thorns, 'Lichfield Angel' is an excellent choice for mixed borders, containers, cutting gardens and informal rose hedging. Getting the most from your new Rose
Where to plant
Choose an open, sunny position with free-draining soil. Avoid planting where roses have grown before or transfer fresh soil to the site. Patio roses can be planted in mixed borders or alongside other roses, or in pots and containers.
Planting
Roses love organic matter, so mix well-rotten manure, leaf mould or compost into the soil. Water thoroughly before planting. Make a hole big enough not to disturb the root ball. Remove from the pot and ensure the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Back-fill soil mixed with a good fertilizer, then firm. Water thoroughly.
Aftercare
Water well until established. Mulching will keep the soil weed-free and moist. For best results feed your roses with fertilizer in spring and again in summer. Remove faded flowers to encourage speedy repeat flowering.
Simple Pruning
Prune your rose in March or before new growth by removing any dead or very thin branches and reducing the height by 1/3 to 2/3 of the previous growth.
