Platycerium superbum
Platycerium superbum is a spectacular epiphytic fern which grows large, deeply divided fertile fronds that resemble the antlers of a stag. At the base, broad rounded shield fronds gradually turn brown and papery as they mature, forming a natural protective layer around the roots.
Best displayed mounted on wood or grown in a hanging basket, Platycerium superbum makes an impressive statement plant for bright, humid indoor spaces. Unlike many houseplants, it naturally grows attached to trees rather than in soil, so excellent drainage and good air movement around the roots are essential.

Platycerium Care
Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid prolonged strong direct sunlight
Water: Water thoroughly and allow excess moisture to drain; mounted plants can be soaked before being allowed to drain completely
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity with good air circulation
Temperature: Keep warm, ideally between 18°C and 27°C, and protect from cold draughts
Feeding: Feed lightly with a diluted balanced fertiliser during spring and summer
Care: Do not remove the brown shield fronds, as these protect the roots and are a natural part of the plant's growth
