Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Variegatus'
Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Variegatus' is a slow-growing evergreen shrub with a dense, bushy habit and distinctive holly-like foliage. Its leathery, spiny grey-green leaves have creamy-white edges, creating a bright contrast that adds year-round colour and structure to the garden.
Small clusters of fragrant white flowers appear in summer and autumn, tucked amongst the foliage, and may occasionally be followed by blue-black fruits. The variegated leaves combine beautifully with darker evergreens and provide an attractive backdrop to seasonal flowers, while the dense branching offers useful cover for garden birds.
Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, 'Variegatus' is ideal for mixed borders, informal screening and large patio containers. Grow in full sun or partial shade with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Light trimming helps maintain a tidy outline, and container plants benefit from regular watering during dry spells.
