Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Niger'
Black Mondo Grass 'Niger' is a striking, compact evergreen perennial grown for its narrow, arching, almost jet-black foliage. The grass-like leaves form neat clumps and create strong contrast against lighter planting, gravel and paving.
From early to midsummer, short spikes of pale lilac to white flowers appear among the foliage, followed by glossy purplish-black berries in autumn. This combination of dark foliage, delicate flowers and decorative berries provides interest through much of the year.
Easy to grow and low maintenance, 'Niger' is ideal for edging paths, groundcover, contemporary planting schemes and containers. It performs best in moist but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade and is particularly effective when planted in groups.
