Myrtus communis
Myrtus communis is a handsome evergreen shrub with a dense, bushy habit and aromatic, glossy green foliage. Its scented leaves provide attractive year-round colour and structure in warm, sheltered planting schemes.
During summer, masses of fragrant, star-shaped white flowers appear, each highlighted by prominent golden stamens. The nectar-rich blooms are attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, while purple-black berries follow in autumn and provide food for garden birds.
Easy to grow in full sun and well-drained soil, Common Myrtle is ideal for sheltered borders, Mediterranean-style gardens and large patio containers. Its evergreen foliage, scented flowers and decorative berries provide interest across several seasons.
