Myrtus communis subsp. tarentina
Myrtus communis subsp. tarentina is a bushy evergreen shrub valued for its compact habit and small, glossy, aromatic leaves. The richly scented foliage provides year-round colour and releases a pleasant fragrance when brushed or crushed.
During summer, masses of small white flowers appear amongst the foliage, creating a fresh and delicate display. These are followed by decorative dark purple to black berries, extending the plant's seasonal interest into autumn.
Easy to grow and naturally dense, Tarentum Myrtle is ideal for sunny borders, Mediterranean-style planting, informal hedging and large patio containers. It performs best in a sheltered position with well-drained soil.
