Hylocereus undatus - Macho Milano
Hylocereus undatus is a unique climbing cactus often grown for its unusual triangular stems and exotic appearance. Although it resembles a spiny cactus, the plant is relatively touch-friendly, making it a popular and approachable choice for indoor collections. As it grows, it produces numerous climbing stems that develop aerial roots, allowing it to scramble and attach to supports.
Given space and strong light, this fascinating plant can mature into an impressive specimen and may eventually produce edible pitaya, or dragon fruit. Ideal for bright rooms, sunny conservatories, or greenhouses, it thrives when allowed to climb or trail from elevated containers.

Hylocereus Care Sheet
Light: Requires bright light with several hours of direct sun daily. Best grown in a sunny greenhouse or conservatory.
Water: Water thoroughly in spring and summer when the soil has dried out. Reduce watering in autumn and keep almost dry in winter.
Soil/Nutrition: Use a very free-draining cactus mix. Feed monthly in spring and summer with a cactus or tomato fertiliser to support flowering and fruiting.
Humidity: Thrives in dry air. Avoid high humidity in cooler conditions.
Pruning & Propagation: Prune to control size or train along a support. Propagates easily from cuttings left to callous before planting.
