Hosta 'Humpback Whale'
Hosta 'Humpback Whale' is an impressive giant hosta forming a huge, dome-shaped mound of richly corrugated blue-green foliage. Originally bred by the legendary Mildred Seaver, this exceptional variety was once so rare that a single plant sold for hundreds of dollars at auction.
Its enormous heart-shaped leaves emerge with an intense blue colouring in spring before gradually softening to blue-green as the season progresses. In early summer, tall blue-green flower scapes rise above the foliage carrying elegant near-white, bell-shaped flowers that attract hummingbirds and other pollinators.
Perfect as a specimen plant or dramatic focal point, 'Humpback Whale' thrives in partial to full shade with fertile, moisture-retentive soil. Its massive size and bold foliage make it ideal for woodland gardens, large borders and shaded landscapes where it provides outstanding architectural impact.
