Hamamelis vernalis 'Amethyst'
Hamamelis vernalis 'Amethyst' is a distinctive deciduous shrub prized for its unusual brightly coloured winter flowers. Clusters of slender, ribbon-like petals in vivid cerise-pink to deep magenta appear along the bare branches, creating a striking display during the coldest months of the year.
The flowers are fragrant and appear during winter into early spring, bringing both colour and scent to the garden when few other shrubs are in bloom. Later in the year, the green foliage develops attractive shades of yellow, orange and red before falling in autumn.
With its broad, bushy habit, 'Amethyst' makes an excellent specimen shrub for woodland gardens, mixed borders and winter-interest planting. Grow in full sun or partial shade in humus-rich, moist but well-drained neutral to acidic soil.
