Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey'
Fig 'Brown Turkey' is one of the most reliable and hardy figs for UK gardens, producing attractive deeply lobed foliage and sweet purple-brown fruits with rich red flesh. Its bold, exotic leaves give strong summer presence, while the late-August to September harvest provides a rewarding supply of homegrown figs ideal for fresh eating or desserts.
Thriving in a warm, sheltered position, ‘Brown Turkey’ performs best against a sunny south- or west-facing wall where extra heat improves ripening. It also grows well in large containers, where natural root restriction encourages heavier crops. Hardy, productive, and low maintenance, it is an excellent choice for both ornamental impact and practical fruiting.
