Euonymus alatus 'Chicago Fire'
Euonymus alatus 'Chicago Fire' is a striking deciduous shrub prized for its spectacular autumn colour and distinctive corky stems. Through spring and summer, the broad, oval leaves are matt green before transforming into intense scarlet, dark red and red-violet shades in autumn.
Small yellow-green flowers appear in May and are followed by decorative orange-red fruits later in the season. The unusual corky ridges along the branches provide additional architectural interest, particularly after the leaves have fallen.
Tough, adaptable and easy to grow, 'Chicago Fire' performs well in sun or partial shade and tolerates a wide range of soil types. Its broad, vase-shaped habit makes it ideal as a specimen shrub, for mixed borders or larger containers, while its tolerance of wind and urban conditions adds to its versatility.
