Erica carnea 'Vivellii'
Erica carnea 'Vivellii' is a low-growing evergreen winter heath producing purple-pink flowers that deepen to rich magenta-red as they age. Flowering from January to May, it brings a changing display of colour to the garden through winter and spring.
Its fine, dark green needle-like foliage can develop bronze or purple tints in colder weather, adding interest alongside the flowers. The spreading habit forms a dense, low carpet, making it useful for groundcover, banks, rockeries and border edges. It also combines beautifully with white-flowered heathers and spring bulbs in containers.
Hardy and easy to grow, 'Vivellii' prefers full sun or light partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. It performs well in acidic or neutral conditions and also tolerates alkaline soil. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a neat outline and encourage fresh growth, avoiding hard pruning into old wood.
